The High Court on Tuesday ordered authorities concerned to form a committee with experts of concerned departments to monitor regularly all the sewerage and gas lines in the capital.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Ahmed Sohel passed the order and issued a rule after holding hearing on a writ petition filed in this regard.
The court asked Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) Chairman, Managing Director of Titas Gas, Managing Director of Dhaka WASA and chief executive officers Dhaka North and South City Corporations to form the committee within seven days.
The High Court in its rule asked the authorities concerned to explain in four weeks as to why their inaction in ensuring peaceful living of the city dwellers shall not be declared illegal.
The court also ordered the committee to submit its report before it in every eight weeks and set May 16 for passing further order in this regard.
Rights group Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh filed the writ on March 12 and senior advocate Manjil Murshid moved the plea before the court.
