Begum Rubaiya Yasmin, Judge of the District and Sessions Judge Court-3 has been stripped of her judicial powers for allegedly forcing the parents to stand up and apologize at Bogura Government Girls High School.
Withdrawing her from judicial activities, Begum Rubaiya Yasmin has also been attached to the Ministry of Law.
It was stated in a circular signed by Mizanur Rahman, deputy registrar (Admn and Judiciary) of the High Court Division of Supreme Court on Thursday (March 23, 2023).
Earlier on Monday, a student was supposed to sweep the classroom. But as she is the judge's daughter, she refused to do it. She also had an argument with her classmates about this. That night, the student made a post on Facebook describing the students as 'slum girls.'
Four of her classmates also made counter posts on Facebook protesting her comments.
After learning about the matter from her daughter, the judge summoned the parents of four students through the headmistress Rabeya Khatun at the school on Tuesday morning.
Four students and their parents came to the headmistress' room at around 11:00am.
Later, in presence of the headmistress, the judge who was present there at that time threatened to send the students and their parents to jail filing a case under the Digital Security Act (DSA).
At that time, she also forced two students and their mothers to apologise to her by touching her feet.
However, headmistress Rabeya Khatun claimed that the students and parents apologised being frightened by the jail threat from the judge.
None forced them to apologise by holding the judge's feet, she also said.
When the news spread, the students of the institution became angry and they started various protest programs including road blockades, human chains, skipping class-examinations. Later, the students withdrew their protest programmes at the request of the deputy commissioner and assurance of taking action against the judge.
