CCTV to cover every inch of Ekushey book fair: DMP

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam on Sunday said closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras will cover every inch space of Ekushey Book Fair and adjacent areas aimed at ensuring flawless security.

"Security will be ensured centering book fair as well as Shaheed Minar and Shahbagh-Nilkhet, as Amar Ekushey Book Fair is a fair of Bangalis heart," he said at a press conference at the temporary police control room at Suhrawardy Udyan after visiting the fair venue.

Shafiqul said, "Every year, we celebrate the Pahela Baishakh and the book fair has also become a part of national culture and national life. Its security has also become one of the major activities of the DMP."

He said search teams of police will be deployed around the Bangla Academy and Suhrawardy Udyan and they will search if found anything suspicious, adding ""Foolproof security measures have been taken for the Ekushey Book Fair scheduled to begin February 15."

"Archways will be installed at every entrance of the book fair ground along with metal detectors. In addition, if anyone is suspected, he/she will be taken to a separate room and searched," the DMP commissioner said.

The Ekushey Book Fair-2022 will run from February 15 to February 28.
