New CEC, four EC take oath

The newly-appointed Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal and four other election commissioners (EC) took oath this afternoon.
Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique administered the oath to CEC Kazi Habibul Awal, the four ECs - Begum Rashida Sultana, Brigadier General (Retd) Ahsan Habib Khan and former senior secretaries Md Alamgir and Anisur Rahman at the Supreme Court Judges Lounge.
Supreme Court Registrar General Md Ali Akbar conducted the oath taking ceremony, while judges of the Appellate Division, officials of the apex court and the Election Commission (EC) were present at the function.
President M Abdul Hamid on February 26 formed the EC with former Senior Secretary Kazi Habibul Awal as the new Chief Election Commissioner.
The president also appointed former District and Sessions Judge Begum Rashida Sultana, Brigadier General (Retd) Ahsan Habib Khan and former senior secretaries Md Alamgir and Anisur Rahman as election commissioners (ECs).
