FTA, EPA Seminar held at Lakeshore Hotel

A seminar titled "The survey on FTA/EPA between Japan and Bangladesh" organized by Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and Japan Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JBCCI) held at a city hotel on Sunday.

Mr. Asif a Chowdhury delivered his welcome speech and Mr. Yuji Ando, Country Representative of JETRO Dhaka (Director, JBCCI) gave his presentation on Survey result on FTA and EPA between Japan and Bangladesh.

In the study showed that 85% of Japanese Companies operating in Bangladesh are interested in Free Trade Agreement (FTA)/Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA).

In the Panel discussion, Mr. Noor Mahbubul Haq, Additional Secretary (FTA), Ministry of Commerce, Mr. Matiur Rahman, Founder President, JBCCI, Mr. Masrur Reaz, Chairman & CEO, Policy Exchange Bangladesh, Mr. Myungho Lee, Vice President, JBCCI and Mr. Md. Shariful Alam, Vice President of JBCCI shared their views on opportunities and possibilities of FTA/EPA between two friendly nations.

Later on, MS. Mahfuza Akhter, Chairman, Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission, Mr. Tapan Kanti Ghosh, Sr. Secretary, Ministry of Commerce delivered their Speeches.

H.E. Mr. ITO Naoki, Hon'ble Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh shared his views and new possibilities of trade and economic cooperation between two nations aimining for FTA/EPA agreement. he emphasized this agreement will help Bangladesh to achieve more growth to GDP to become Developed country in the future.

Following that, H.E. Mr. Tipu Munshi, Hon'ble Minister, Ministry of Commerce shared his opinions and suggestions on this matter. He explained that Govt. is trying to take better actions decision in this matter and hopefully in the future Govt. will consider this FTA/Epa agreement to go for and achieve a further goal.

Lastly, Mr. Hikari Kawai, delivered his Closing speech by thanking everyone to attend this event and wishing for a better business environment in Bangladesh.
