Veteran journalist Reazuddin Ahmed passed away at the ICU of United Hospital in Dhaka on Saturday afternoon. He was 77.

The journalist breathed his last at 1:30pm. He was suffering from Covid, family sources said.

On Sunday last, the former president of Jatiya Press Club was taken to the hospital with Covid-19 related complications.

Reazuddin was also former president of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists and former editor of the News Today.

Riazuddin Ahmed was born in 1945 in Narandi village of Narsingdi's Manohardi upazila. He achieved MA degree in Economics from Dhaka University in 1967 and LLB in 1972.

After teaching for a brief period, he joined Pakistan Observer in 1968. In 1970 he became a member of the executive council of the then East Pakistan Journalists Union.

Riazuddin left Pakistan Observer on March 25, 1971, and assisted in the War of Liberation. After the independence, he rejoined the Observer. He worked there until November 1990.

He wrote the three books--‘Shotter Sondhane Protidin’, ‘Arobbo Rajani’ and ‘Paroshya Rajani’.
