Another policeman was suspended over the recent escape of two death-row convicts from police custody at a Dhaka court, bringing the tally of suspended cops to seven.

Confirming the matter to BSS, deputy commissioner Jasim Uddin of Dhaka Metropolitan Police's (DMP's) prosecution wing said Constable Nur-e Azad, who was taking the four militants alone to prison van on the day of the incident, was suspended.

"There were four more policemen on duty on that day along with Azad. But Azad was taking the four militants alone from the court lockup and it is a matter of investigation. So, he was suspended following the order of the DMP commissioner," the deputy commissioner added.

Members of banned militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team punched Nur-e Azad on the face, breaking his nose and sprayed some chemical on his eyes and managed to snatch their cohorts and death-row convicts Abu Siddiq Sohel and Moinul Hasan Shamim at Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court arena on November 20.

Earlier, court inspector Motiur Rahman, lockup in-charge SI Nahidur Rahman Bhuiyan, ATSI Mohiuddin, constables Sharif Hasan, Joynal and Abdus Sattar were suspended over the incident.
