Electricity price hiked further

The government has increased the electricity price at the wholesale (bulk) and retail level.

The new power tariff will come into effect from the current month (January) and consumers using post-paid meter will have to pay from February.

The government issued a gazette notification in this regard on January 30.

According to the gazette, the price was adjusted upward trend by 5 percent at retail level, while 8 percent at the wholesale level (bulk).

It said the wholesale rate of Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) was fixed at Tk 8.10 per kWh for 230 KV line, Tk 8.13 for 132 KV and Tk 5.89 for 33 KV, while Dhaka Power Distribution Company's rate Tk 8.10 per kWh for 230 KV, Tk 8.13 for 132 KV, Tk 8.22 for 33 KV line.

The gazette mentioned that Dhaka Electric Supply Company fixed Tk 8.10 per kWh for 230 KV line, Tk 8.13 for 132 KV and Tk 8.24 for 33 KV line, while West Zone Power Distribution Company' tariff was fixed Tk 8.10 per kWh for 230 KV line, Tk 8.13 for 132 KV and Tk 7.12 for 33 KV line.

It also fixed power tariff for Northern Electricity Supply Company at Tk 8.10 per kWh for 230 KV line, Tk 8.13 for 132 KV and Tk 6.70 for 33KV line.

Earlier, state minister for power, energy and mineral resources Nasrul Hamid said that from now, the electricity price will be adjusted in the first week of every month.
