Country's democracy safe only AL's hands: Quader

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Sunday said the country's independence, sovereignty and democracy is protected in the hands of only the Awami League.

"Awami League, under the leadership of Bangabandhu's daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has been playing a pioneering role in expansion and progress of democracy for long," he said.

Quader said BNP was born under military dictatorship by "killing the country's independence-sovereignty and democracy".

BNP founder military dictator Ziaur Rahman had damaged the country's Constitution severely after seizing state power in an unconstitutional and illegal way and imposed Indemnity Ordinance to safeguard the killers of Bangabandhu and four national leaders, he said in a statement in protest against BNP leaders' nonstop falsehood and propaganda,

In reply to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir's comment that AL and democracy don't go together, he said: "I want to say Mirza Fakhrul that Awami League is the party which led the country's independence and the great Liberation War. Under Bangabandhu's daughter Awami League President Sheikh Hasina's leadership, democracy was restored in Bangladesh through the demolition of long autocratic rule."

Quader, also road transport and bridges minister said a huge number of leaders and workers of AL made supreme sacrifice for attaining the country's autonomy, independence, freedom, sovereignty and establishing democracy.

Sheikh Hasina reinstated democratic values from the hands of autocratic rulers wearing masks of democracy. He said AL remains ahead of any other political party in terms of practising internal democracy.

On the other hand, BNP has always apathy in practising democracy and even they remained confused in going to parliament after being elected MPs in people's vote, he mentioned.

Although the BNP secretary general didn't join parliament even after being elected an MP, the party has representation in the House, he said.

The minister said it has been proved that such puzzled political leadership, which is unable to take a decision, has no capability to make the welfare of the country.

He said the people's fortune has developed a lot and the country has made tremendous progress under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Witnessing the development, BNP leaders are becoming frustrated and making absurd comments continuously, he mentioned.
