A clash erupted between the activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) again on Thursday, leaving several of them injured.
Police said seven JCD activists were injured in the clash in front of Shilpakala Academy around 12 pm while JCD leaders claimed that over 30 of their activists were injured in the clash.
Activists of BCL, student wing of Awami League, from different dormitories of Dhaka University equipped with bamboo sticks, wood, iron rods, steel pipes and helmets attacked the JCD activists when they were marching towards Doel Chattar with a procession as per their pre-scheduled prigramme, said witnesses.
Newly nominated BCL hall leaders led the BCL activists who carried out the attack, alleged some JCD activists.
Officer-in-Charge of Shahbagh police station Moudut Hawlader said two people have been detained in connection with the clash.
DU BCL general secretary Saddam Hussein said JCD activists came to the campus with firearms to spoil the peaceful environment of the campus.
Proctor Professor Dr. AKM Golam Rabbani said the situation was brought under control with immediate intervention of the university administration.
The university administration also informed the law enforcement agencies. "If anyone wants to create chaos further, stern action will be taken, " the proctor added.
On Tuesday, at least 35 people were injured in a clash between activists of JCD and BCL near the Central Shaheed Minar, resulting in a chase, a counter-chase, and throwing of brick chips between the two groups before they dispersed.
