BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has alleged that Awami League has become desperate to prevent a neutral and credible general election in the country.

“The current illegal government is afraid to hold a fair election during the day. They’re hanging into power with fake votes in the dead of night. That is why they’re making frantic efforts so that a neutral and fair election is not held in the country,” he said on Friday.

The BNP leader made the remarks while talking to reporters after paying homage to party's founder Ziaur Rahman by placing a wreath at his grave at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar along with the leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Ulema Dal, marking its 43rd founding anniversary, reports UNB.

Rizvi said Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader has been making unguarded comments about BNP to prolong ‘misrule’ by misleading people.

Though the common people are going through serious sufferings, he said, the ruling party leaders are living a happy life as they made huge money by resorting to plundering and corruption.

“They don't want to get out of the paradise they have established through massive looting and corruption. So, Obaidul Quader is asking BNP to remove the ghost of caretaker government from its head while the law minister is saying that BNP has to back off from a demand of the caretaker government,” the BNP leader said.

He said the ruling party leaders are against the polls under a caretaker government as they know Awami League will face a massive debacle if a fair election is held in the country.

“Those who fear the people's vote are against the neutral caretaker government. The soft mattress of their throne of power will be washed away if a fair election is held under a caretaker government. That is why they’re asking BNP to move away from the demand of the caretaker government,” Rizvi observed.

He alleged that Awami League has handed over sticks instead of books and pens to the leaders and activists of its student organisation Chhatra League. “You have seen its proofs a few days back at Dhaka University and Eden College.

He said the ruling party is also not paying attention to the statements of the foreign envoys and different democratic countries about holding the next polls in a fair and credible manner as it wants to continue misrule and plundering.
