BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday said Awami League will not get even 30 seats if elections are held under a caretaker government. He said, General election would not be allowed in the country without a caretaker government.
Fakhrul made the remarks at milad mahfil and discussion held at Ghagtia Chala Welfare Ground in Kapasia, Gazipur, marking the sixth death anniversary of ASM Hannan Shah on Friday afternoon.
He said people of the country could freely exercise their voting rights in the election held under the caretaker government.
“In the elections held during Awami League government, it was seen that people were barred from exercising their voting rights by their (ruling party) terror force or police. Or, they did farce by casting votes at night before the election.”
He said Awami League leaders and activists have understood that they will not be able to come to power again if election is held under a non-partisan and neutral government.
“That is why they are so afraid of a caretaker government. And Awami League will not get more than 30 seats if the general election is held under the caretaker government.”
The BNP secretary general said, “We do not get this country at the mercy of anyone. We do not liberated the country through war to pave the way for Awami bandit forces for looting.”
Today, people all over the world know that human rights are being violated in Bangladesh, there is no democracy here, said Fakhrul adding that “Three activists of Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal have already been shot dead as the BNP has started a movement against the establishment of voting rights of the people of the country, price hike of fuel, electricity, gas, rice, pulses, oil, fertilizers and other essentials. But the current illegal government could not stop our movement.”
He further said, “There will be no more call for joining in the movement. The movement that has started will continue. Looting and corruption will not be allowed in the country, people are starting to wake up, please step down.”
Fakhrul asked the government to step down and dissolve the parliament immediately to bring back the provision of the caretaker government.
