Golam Mohammad Quader has been elected as Jatiya Party's parliamentary party leader excluding ailing Rowshan Ershad, said the party's secretary general Mujibul Huq Chunnu.
The decision was taken at Jatiya Party's presidium meeting held at the JP Chairman's Banani office in the capital on Saturday.
Earlier, Rowshan Ershad was the parliamentary party leader. She was the Leader of the Opposition in parliament. The party has already written to the Speaker of Jatiya Sangsad to announce GM Quader as the Leader of Opposition in Parliament.
Meanwhile, the council of Jatiya Party convened by Rowshan Ershad has been described as "whimsical" by secretary general Mujibul Huq Chunnu.
Chunnu said Rowshan Ershad has convened a fabricated council. It has no relation with the party.
