Missing Rohingya leader’s mutilated body found, 3 held

Mutilated body of a missing Rohingya community leader has been found inside an abandoned house in a Rohingya camp in Ukhia, Cox's Bazar.

According to the police, the mutilated body was recovered from the residence of one Yakub in the presence of concerned officials of the Rohingya camp administration today, almost a year after the victim went missing.

Relatives said that Rohingya leader Syed Amin was kidnapped by his rivals on the pretext of dominating the camp in January this year. The abductors demanded a ransom of Tk 80,000 from Amin's relatives at the time. But, the family members failed to pay the amount to the abductors and Amin was remain missing.

Confirming the news, APBn Commander, Superintendent of Police Mohammad Shihab Kaiser Khan said: “The law enforcers have picked three people-- Mohammad Islam, 22; Abdul Monaf, 26; and Mohammad Elias, 28—up in a raid in E-3 block of Rohingya Camp number 14 in Ukhia on Saturday morning. They are local criminals.”

“During the interrogation, they said that they kidnapped Amin and killed him after failing to realise the ransom amount,” he added.

Later, police exhumed the body and a case has been filed in this regard as family members identified the body.

The body has been sent to Cox's Bazar District Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy this morning.
