Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Thusday urged the country's people to keep trust in AL President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina amid the ongoing global crisis.
"The government, led by Sheikh Hasina, is making continuous efforts to deal with the crisis. It is proven today that if there is a leader who can maintain the progress of Bangladesh facing this global crisis, it is Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina," he said in a statement.
"We call upon the country's people to keep trust in Sheikh Hasina in the continuity of the past. We will be able to overcome this crisis with collective efforts of all through patience and responsible attitudes towards the specific plans taken by Sheikh Hasina, Inshallah," he said.
Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said the entire world is going through an unexpected crisis, while the world's largest economies are also facing serious setback.
Apart from price hike of food and essential commodities, he said, power and energy crisis deepens in almost all countries of the world, including the countries of Europe and America. "Due to its adverse impacts, our beloved motherland Bangladesh is facing an unexpected crisis today," he added.
The AL general secretary said the BNP leaders have been indulged intentionally in various politically motivated falsehoods without considering global crisis situation, while they are demanding the resignation of the government.
Asking a question to BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, he said: "Will the governments of all the countries of the world resign? If the government resigns in all countries, the whole world will be without a government."
For sure, Quader said, all the countries cannot run without governments amid such situation, it is the responsibility of all patriotic citizens to address the crisis with patience.
In democratic system, every opposition party has responsibility and duty to their respective country and its people, he said.
But, the AL general secretary said, the BNP leaders continue their usual politics of falsehood and confusion without playing the role of opposition party.
While the BNP was in power, it gave graft an institutional shape by opening Hawa Bhaban and the country's people did not forget this, he said.
Quader said the BNP turned Bangladesh into a failed state through its anti-people policies and looting.
Showing thumb to the pledge of public welfare, the BNP established sectionalism and syndicate system, he said.
The AL general secretary said from that rubble, successful leader Sheikh Hasina has given Bangladesh a unique status at global stage as a potential economic through her specific planning and efforts.
He said the people, who fired on the chests of the people for demanding electricity, could not add a single unit of power to the national grid, will make unwise comments amid the ongoing crisis and it is very normal.
Quader said the whole world have fallen in a humanitarian crisis due to the Ukraine-Russia war after the coronavirus pandemic.
Because of the increase in inflation, food and energy security is at risk across the world, he said, adding that the developing, least developed and poor countries have been paying the most due to sanctions and counter sanctions.
The AL general secretary said even in this situation, the government is making vital efforts to deal with the crisis by maintaining stability.
Rationing system has been introduced temporarily to address power crisis, he said.
In such situation, the only way to resolve the power crisis is to ensure the system of renewable energy, while one of the sources of renewable energy is nuclear energy, Quader said.
