Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Tuesday said the BNP has no capacity to oust the incumbent Awami League government through a movement.
"BNP has fallen sick after hearing the statement of the US assistant secretary of state," said Quader.
"BNP leaders have started falling sick from their frustration...the original leaders (of BNP) admitted to hospitals but bottom-line leaders are saying that they would topple the government through a tsunami of movement," he said.
He made these remarks while speaking at a discussion at Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) auditorium in the capital.
Dhaka district unit of AL arranged the discussion, marking the Homecoming Day of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The AL general secretary said the hands of BNP's alliance are going to be broken and ousting the Sheikh Hasina's government through the frustrated alliance is a message of despair.
"Join the polls if you (BNP) want to change the government. The government will not interfere in the election. The Election Commission will hold the polls," he said.
Urging BNP leaders to shun the demand of restoration of the caretaker government system, Quader said the system is not found in any country of the world with the exception of Pakistan.
Voicing a question over the financial support coming for the BNP's movement, he warned that those who are giving money for toppling the AL government will have to face the music.
Calling upon the AL leaders and workers to remain united, the AL general secretary said no political party has the capacity to destroy the united AL.
Urging the country's people to vote for the AL in the next general elections, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said: "Bangabandhu's daughter and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is fulfilling the incomplete works of her father. Work for Sheikh Hasina so that she can win once again in the next elections."
Prime Minister's Investment Adviser Salman F Rahman, AL organsing secretary Mirza Azam, State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr Enamur Rahman and AL national committee member Abdul Baten also spoke at the meeting with AL's Dhaka district unit president Benzir Ahmed in the chair.
AL's Dhaka district unit general secretary Poniruzzaman Torun moderated the meeting.
