Awami League nominates mayoral candidates for 5 city corporations with 3 new faces

Awami League (AL) on Saturday has nominated their mayoral candidates for polls to five city corporations in the country.
A meeting of Awami League Local Government Nomination Board headed by party president Sheikh Hasina gave the nomination to the candidates, bringing three new faces in the local government elections, reports UNB.
The mayoral nominees are AHM Khairuzzaman Liton in Rajshahi, Talukder Abdul Khalek in Khulna, Abul Khayer Abdullah in Barishal, Advocate Ajmatullah Khan in Gazipur and Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury in Sylhet, according to a media release signed by party office secretary Biplob Barua.
The release said three new faces were brought in the mayoral race this time while the rest are incumbent mayors.
On April 3, the Election Commission announced the schedules of elections to five city corporations.
The elections will be held in Gazipur on May 25, Khulna and Barishal on June 12, and Rajshahi and Sylhet on June 2.
At the nomination board meeting, party’s general secretary Obaidul Quader, advisor Amir Hossain Amu, presidium members Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, Abul Hasnat Abdullah, Kazi Jafarullah, Dr Md Abdur Razzaque and Lieutenant Colonel (retd) Faruk Khan,among others, were present.
