The returning officer announced the cancellation of the nomination papers of independent mayoral candidate Jahangir Alam in the Gazipur City Corporation elections due to default. Calling this decision biased, Jahangir Alam said injustice has been done to him.

I will appeal against this decision. If necessary, I will go to Supreme Court and High Court,” says Jahangir on Sunday after cancellation of his nomination paper.

Earlier, Faridul Islam, returning officer of the GCC election, cancelled the nomination saying that Jahangir is a loan defaulter. However, the nomination of his mother Zaida Khatun was declared valid at the same time.

Terming the returning officer’s decision as biased, Jahangir said, “Injustice has been done to me. It is biased. The bank authorities have given written and oral statements about the payment of installments of the loan. Still, what you have done is biased.”

He further said, “I want justice. I will appeal against this decision. If necessary, I will go to Supreme Court, High Court. I will fight to the end.”
