West Indies beat Bangladesh by 35 runs in 2nd T20

Rovman Powell hit two fours and six sixes in a 28-ball 61 not out as West Indies' 193-5 proved too much for Bangladesh to chase down in their second Twenty20 international on Sunday.

Bangladesh scored 158-6 in reply as West Indies won by a comfortable 35 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Riding on a solid 57 and a whirlwind 28 ball-61 not out from Rovman Powell helped West Indies compile a hefty 193-5, a score that was enough to cause a mental breakdown for Bangladesh.

And Bangladesh responded poorly, being restricted to 158-6 with Shakib Al Hasan fighting solely to hit an unbeaten 68 off 52 with five fours and three sixes.

Bangladesh's big defeat was ensured in just second over when fast bowler Obed McCoy dismissed Liton Das (5) and Anamul Haque Bijoy (3), the two openers in consecutive deliveries.

Soon after skipper Mahmudullah played a rash shot to be out for 7, leaving Bangladesh at a precarious 23-3.

Afif Hossain joined Shakib and they played some attacking shost but they were not as aggressive as it was needed to overhaul West Indies' total.

Afif smacked three fours and one six for his 34 off 27 before Odean Smith got rid of him and in doing so brought an end to the 55-run partnership between him and Shakib.

Nurul Hasan Sohan and others couldn't come up as lusty blow as the asking run rate were increasing alarmingly. Indeed the West Indies' big total threw Bangladesh out of the match even before the Tigers started chasing.

West Indies opted to bat first after winning the toss and it paid a rich dividends. Kyle Mayers made a fluent start before Mahedi Hasan dismissed him.

Shakib then got the wicket of Shamarh Brooks as West Indies were left at 26-2 in fourth over. Bangladesh sensed a chance but that was dashed by the calculative aggression of Brandon King and skipper Nicholas Pooran who added 74-run for the third wicket.

Mosaddek Hossain broke the partnership, removing Pooran for 34. But his dismissal brought Rovman Powell in the crease, who went after Bangladesh bowlers from the words go.

Powell brought up his fifty off just 20 balls and later remained unbeaten on 61 off 28, smashing two fours and six towering sixes.

King however smote seven fours and one six before being out in the 18th over. For Bangladesh Shoriful Islam claimed 2-40 while Shakib, Mosaddek and Mahedi picked up one wicket apiece.
