Domingo embarrassed over 'resignation' issue

Bangladesh cricket teem's head coach Russell Domingo felt embarrassed after the way some media reports suggested that he resigned from his post, said a top official of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

Rumours were rife that Domingo who is now at his home in South Africa submitted his resignation letter following his removal from the Bangladesh's T20 set up.

"I've talked to Russell and we discussed in details. Russell was embarrassed the matter came to the media," BCB CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury said here today.

"He said that he felt embarrassed. He also requested you (media) through me not to portray the issue like this. The relation between him and us is employee and employer so there can be some misunderstanding. Therefore to avoid those I've talked to him at length. There might be some miscommunication between you (media) and him. The ultimate thing is that he didn't step down from his post."

Russell Domingo also denied the report that he submitted any resignation letter to the BCB.

"It's not true that I have sent a letter to resign. My contract will expire November 2023, and I am committed to the board until then," Domingo told the Bangladeshi media over phone today.

The BCB has recently appointed Sridharan Sriram as the technical consultant of the Tigers until the T20 World Cup. After his appointment, the board removed Domingo from the T20 set up.

But Domingo seemed not to be hurt by the Board's decision to remove him from the T20 format, saying that it rather gives him adequate time to focus on Test and 50-over cricket, the two formats for which the board retained him to supervise the team.

"I think it's a great idea. It gives me nice focus on the Test match and 50 overs stuff. We have had some great results and bad results in T20s. I don't think it is a bad idea to make a fresh approach in T20s," Domingo said.

"I'm very open-minded about it. It is not my team. It is not about me. I am all for making the team better. It gives me nice clarity with the 50-over World Cup coming. We know there's a lot of work with the Test team. It also gives me some time to spend with the family. I was home for five weeks last year. Family life is important for me. It is very difficult to sustain. To come to tournaments fresh, to come in good attitude," he mentioned.

However, before returning to South Africa to spend holiday, he vented his anger on the BCB in some interviews with some Bangladeshi media which sparked the speculations that his relations with the BCB is just about to come to an end.
