Bangladesh women’s football team lifted their maiden SAFF Women’s Championship title, by defeating Nepal 3-1 in the final at the Dasarath Stadium in Nepal on Monday.
The visitors took the lead in the 13th minute after Shamsunnahar converted a cross from teammate Monika Chakma into a goal, surprising Nepali goalie Anjila Subba.
Bangladesh doubled their lead in the 42nd minute after Srimoti Krishna Rani Sarkar beat Nepal’s offside trap and put the ball past the goalkeeper.
Nepal introduced its all-time highest scorer Sabitra Bhandari in the second half. However, that was not enough for the hosts to head towards glory.
A goal from Anita Basnet in the 70th minute had kept Nepal’s hope alive in the championship.
However, Sarkar struck the third goal in the 77th minute sealing the deal for Bangladesh.
