Banks to stay open on July 8, 9 in industrial areas

Bangladesh Bank (BB) has instructed bank branches of garment industries belt to open on Friday and Saturday (July 8 & 9) for the payment of garment workers' wages, bonus and other allowances before Eid-ul-Azha.
The Department of Off-site Supervision of BB issued a notification in this regard and sent it to the top executives of all the scheduled banks on Sunday, reports UNB.
The notification stated that bank branches in Dhaka metropolitans, Ashulia, Tongi, Gazipur, Savar, Bhaluka and Narayanganj will be kept open for full days on Friday and Saturday to make payment of garment workers' wages, bonus and other allowances.
The BB also instructed to keep open bank branches in the Chattogram metropolitan and industrial areas to facilitate payment of garment workers’ and received export bills.
The central bank told banks to arrange adequate security in the bank branches with coordination of local administration.
The holy Eid-ul-Azha will be celebrated across the country on July 10. On the occasion of Eid, July 9, 10 and 11 are announced as public holidays.
