National Board of Revenue (NBR) has extended the deadline for returning tax until January 2, 2022 as the last day of furnishing income and wealth statements falls on weekly holiday.
Earlier, the NBR fixed December 31 for submitting the tax return. But, the deadline was Friday and that's why the tax authorities decided to receive tax returns from individual taxpayers for the income year 2021-22 on January 2, 2022.
Tax offices will remain closed on January 1 (Saturday) as it is a weekly holiday, said NBR spokesperson Syed A Momen.
The NBR called upon the taxpayers to submit returns within the deadline to avoid penalty for late submission.
The official deadline for filing income tax return is November 30. But the tax authorities extended the time by one month as the number of return submission was low.
